Und now ve are in Frankfurt!

I had some great times in Frankfurt! Starting with the train conductor on our way to Frankfurt. The announcements for each station were in german, french, and english, but every time the English came on the guy would say "And now we are in (fill in city)" in a over enthusiastic voice.  It was great!
Frankfurt is a beautiful city! We got there around 11 and had a very long lunch at an Australian place. I had schnitzel with rahmsoße. I asked the lady what  rahmsoße was and she goes, "rahmsoße is rahmsoße!" No help at all. We also had apple wine at lunch and the when i asked for that she goes, "You vould like some apfle vine?" It was quite funny!

apfle vine!

After we checked into our hostel, which was very nice, we explore the town and went to do some shopping! yay. We saw this huge euro sign with stars all around them, it was very cool looking, but there were all these tents surrounding it. I jokingly said, "Its probably Occupy Frankfurt." It was..

i didnt know the occupy movement was global.

We went down the shopping area and got some great souvenirs :) There are thai restaurants every where! I had it twice for dinner! I love it! :) The mall was very cool! It had a big hole in it and when you went inside there was like a glass tunnel!

We slept for 13 hours that night! We were all so tired! On Saturday we went on a bus tour! It was fun. I learned quite a bit about Frankfurt
1) It was where emporeres were elected and crowned
2) it was settled in the first century by romans
3) It got its name from Frank=german and Furt= shallow river
4) Frankfurt has the nickname manhattan because it has the biggest concentration of high-rises anywhere in western Europe! I thought this was funny
We stopped in Romer- which is beautiful! It was resorted after WWII because it was severely bombed. I, of course, found some cotton candy! And I have to say, it was some of the BEST cotton candy I have ever had. The cathedral was gorgeous and the rest of the bus tour was great!
 yummy yummy cotton candy

random buliding- the thing on top was to remind people that emperors used to be crowned in frankfurt

We had our traditional german meal next! It was so good! I am not a fan of sausage but theses were delicious! I had original frankfurt sausage, mash potatoes, and a bit, tiny bit of sauerkraut. oh yea and a beer!
 beer!

oh yea!  i forgot the best part! APPLE STUDLE! so good and warm and creamy. mouth is watering...

Sunday we got up "early" aka 930 and went to the jewish museum. It was not to bad. I thought it would have more holocaust things, but it did not. It had a couple of panels and a video but it was more on the history. It was pretty sad because there was a whole wall of Jews who were taken out of Frankfurt. It was about 10 feet by 6 feet and had tiny tiny print. There must of been 10,000 names at least! just in Frankfurt :( it was very sad.

On a happier note the German festival/carnival was later that day! it was great fun! So many people dressed up and the parade was 3 hours long! Oh my god!  here are some great pictures of outfits and floats!
Odd side story. on the way back from the parade I stopped to buy some post cards. The man who rang me up said, "Hola!" I reply with an odd look. He replies in Spanish and I say, "Sorry no hablan español?" And he goes, "Oh you not Spanish? I thought you speak spanish outside." I said, "nope English." Very odd, do i look spanish at all?.....

We had another early night and got up at 430 for our train to metz. Metz was pretty beautiful but we only spent 2 hours there!
Sorry about the long post! but I had a blast and LOVE GERMANY! :)

Germany Tomorrow!

I can't wait to go to Germany tomorrow! We have to get up at 5am but it will be worth it! This week has been pretty laid back. I have been sick but finally getting better! Today megan and I spent a lot of time looking up german common phrases. Germany is a ridiculous language! This is the word for apology, "entschuldigung." Really...? Well hopefully they speak french (or english).
A couple of things I forgot to mention about dinner at Janelles. After we had tea the parent bought out one of those hand crank flash lights that dont need batteries. They passed it around to the older people and they were laughing so hard! They were amazed by it. I thought it was pretty funny because they acted like they had never seen it before! Also have I mentioned how much I hate the "faire la bise" which are the kisses on the cheeks. Everyone at Janelles did that to me. I did not like it! Get away from my face french people! haha. Well I will post more when i get back on Monday with lots of picture!

Au revoir!

Vacation!

Hello!
So not too much has happened since my last blog.  Megan and I are both sick with colds! It sucks. On saturday night we went to Janelles parents house! It was so delicious!  To start off we had champaign and onion soup.  We put pieces of bread in our bowl and sprinkled it with cheese the the soup got poured into it.  It was so good!  Then we had this cheese fondu thing called raclette. It's like cheese fondu. We each have our own metal pot and then pieces of meat and potatoes were passed around. We filled the metal pot with cheese and then dipped the meat and potatoes in it! It was SO good! After we had salad, which was okay. Then some fruit crumblier and cookies for dessert. After the meal was tea and coffee (i didnt have any) but it was one of the best meals ever!
We are on a 2 week break now and soon megan, kara, and I are going to Frankfurt Germany. I will write later!
Happy Valentines day everyone!
